How case battles work

A case battle is case opening as a head-to-head game. One player creates a battle, picks the cases and the number of seats, and other players join by paying the same case cost. Every seat opens the same cases at the same time, the site adds up what each player unboxed, and the highest total takes every item opened in the battle. Ties split the pot or go to a coin flip, depending on the site.

Crazy mode flips the rule: the lowest total wins. Some sites also run team battles, where two pairs open against each other and the winning pair splits the pot.

Odds, house edge and case choice

The house edge in a battle is the same as in the cases themselves. Each case’s expected return is below its price, and the battle only redistributes what the cases pay out. Your chance to win a given battle depends on the variance of the cases picked: a case with one huge item and a lot of cheap ones swings a battle more than a case with even values. In crazy mode the low-variance case becomes the safer pick.

A provably fair battle rolls each opening from a hashed server seed committed before the battle starts, so you can recompute every roll afterwards. Verify one battle on the fairness page before you join one that costs you items.

Checks before you join a lobby

Look at how many lobbies are open and how fast they fill; an empty lobby means you cannot play. Read the odds table for each case in the battle. Confirm the items you could win are in the withdrawal inventory, and set a loss limit, since battles move fast.

Which TF2 sites have case battles

TF2Easy and TF2 Royal both list case battles. Howl does not. See TF2 case opening for the solo version and the best TF2 gambling sites list for everything else.

Frequently asked questions

What is a TF2 case battle?

Two or more players open the same set of cases at the same time. The player whose unboxed items are worth the most wins everything opened in the battle.

How do case battles work?

One player creates a battle and picks the cases and seats. Others join and pay the same case cost. Every seat opens the same cases, the site adds up each player's total, and the highest total takes the pot. Ties split the pot or go to a coin flip, depending on the site.

Which TF2 sites have case battles?

TF2Easy and TF2 Royal both list case battles. Howl does not. The cards above update when we add or remove a site, and lobby activity varies by time of day.

What is a crazy mode case battle?

In crazy mode the lowest total wins instead of the highest. It changes which cases to pick, since a low-variance case becomes the safer choice.
